SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Have you ever wondered what’s inside the 1890s de Laveaga train station on Bryant and Davis?

  • An extensive Indian burial site was discovered during the 1924 construction of the OCC golf course. Do you know which green?
  • Next time you shop at Safeway, look around you. Their parking lot was once the location of regular rodeos. Are you old enough to remember them?
  • Did you know that the Pony Express came through Orinda a dozen times? See if you can find its Historical Marker (clue: 37° 52.674′ N, 122° 10.93′ )
  • Do you remember shopping at Phair’s or Black’s?
  • Take a good look at Village Antiques next time you’re on Orinda Way. However, did they manage to get a firetruck inside that tiny store back in 1923?
  • Do you have a burning desire to learn more about Orinda’s history and keep it alive for future generations?

The Orinda Historical Society would like your help… become a member,  learn about the events we offer, and receive regular newsletters with fascinating stories about the past. Next time you’re visiting the library, take a look at the OHS Museum — we’re located next to the Orinda Association and very close to the cafe! Volunteer to help others learn more about OHS. Currently we have only enough volunteers to open a few hours a week, but would welcome your input helping with the public or working behind the scenes.
