These Terms of Use apply to the Orinda Historical Society (OHS) website at orindahistory.org. The site provides historical and educational information, collection access, and ways to connect with and support OHS. Please use it respectfully and lawfully.
Historical information
Our collections include historical accounts, photographs, newspapers and documents from different periods and perspectives. They may contain errors, incomplete information or language that reflects its time. Inclusion does not mean OHS endorses every statement or viewpoint. We welcome corrections and additional source information. Please independently verify information when accuracy is important to your intended use.
Photographs, documents and reuse
Rights in photographs, documents, text and other materials may belong to OHS, contributors or other rights holders. Some materials may be in the public domain or available under specific permissions. Making an item available to view does not, by itself, grant permission to reproduce, publish, sell or otherwise reuse it.
Check each item’s credit, rights statement and source. You are responsible for obtaining any permission your intended use requires. Nothing in these terms limits uses allowed by applicable law, including fair use or use of public-domain material. For permission inquiries or copyright concerns, email info@orindahistory.org with the item link and details. Please retain relevant credits when using collection material.
Messages and contributions
Send only information and materials you are entitled to share. Do not submit unlawful, threatening or malicious content, interfere with the website, attempt unauthorized access, or harvest personal information from it. Sending a research inquiry does not transfer ownership of your materials to OHS. Acceptance of donated artifacts, photographs or other collection materials, and any associated rights, should be arranged separately with OHS.
Donations, memberships and third-party services
Online contributions and memberships are handled through Zeffy. Review the amount, recurring-payment selection, any optional platform contribution, and the terms displayed at checkout before submitting. Contact OHS about a contribution or membership question. These website terms do not create a separate refund promise or guarantee any particular tax treatment.
External archives, payment services and other linked websites have their own terms. OHS does not control their content, availability or practices. Links are provided to help visitors find resources.
Availability and responsibility
We work to keep the site useful and accessible, but information, opening hours and services can change. Please contact us to confirm arrangements before a special visit. The site and its historical resources are provided as available, without a guarantee of uninterrupted access or complete accuracy. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or responsibilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Privacy and changes
Our Privacy Policy explains website information practices. We may revise these terms by publishing an updated version on this page with a new effective date.
