Effective September 8, 2026

Orinda Historical Society (OHS) operates orindahistory.org to share local history, provide access to collections, and connect with visitors and supporters. This policy explains information collected through this website and the choices available to you.

Information you provide

When you contact us, we may receive your name, email address, optional phone number, reason for contacting us, and message. Newsletter sign-ups provide an email address. We use this information to respond to requests, coordinate research or volunteering, and provide updates you request. Messages and sign-ups may be retained in website records or email systems. Please do not send payment-card numbers or other sensitive information through the contact form.

Donations and memberships

Our donation and membership forms use Zeffy. Information you enter into those forms is handled by Zeffy and its payment providers. OHS can receive donor contact and transaction information to administer contributions, memberships and acknowledgments. Review the notices displayed in the payment form and Zeffy’s privacy and legal information before submitting a payment.

Website activity, cookies and analytics

Our hosting and security systems may process IP addresses, browser and device information, requested pages, timestamps and security events to operate and protect the site.

We use Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager to understand website use. Measurement can include pages viewed, referring websites, approximate location, device and browser information, scrolling, downloads, outbound links and interactions with contact, support and archive links. Cookies or similar identifiers help measure visits. Our custom click events record interaction categories rather than the text of your message or your contact details.

Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can manage or delete cookies in your browser and use Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on in supported browsers. Blocking cookies or third-party content may affect some site features. These browser controls do not erase information already collected.

Service providers and external content

Website hosting, security, email, analytics and payment services may process information needed to provide their services. Embedded content can connect your browser to another provider when the containing page loads, even before you interact with it. Links to CatalogIt, California Revealed and social networks take you to separately operated services with their own privacy practices. OHS may also disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to address fraud, security issues or the protection of legal rights.

Your choices and requests

You may contact us to ask about personal information you have provided, request a correction or deletion, or ask to stop receiving newsletters. Use an unsubscribe link when available, or email us with your request. We may need to verify your identity before responding. Some records may need to be kept for transaction, legal, security or historical-collection purposes; deletion may not immediately remove copies from backups. Please contact us about retention of a particular record.

Historical collections and children

Historical photographs, newspapers and documents can contain names, images and other information about individuals. If you have a privacy or rights concern about a collection item, send us its page address and a description of your concern so we can review it. Adults should coordinate school visits and research requests involving children; children should not submit personal information without a parent or guardian’s involvement.

Security and updates

We use website security measures, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. We will post revisions to this policy here with an updated effective date.
